About us

A long-established building company on the Isle of Wight, now specialising in kitchens, wetrooms and disability adaptations.

IC Building & Joinery is Ian Curley’s company. Ian trained as a decorator at college and spent years on contracts for new builds, moved into shop fitting around 1993, and started the building company in 1995. Nearly forty years on, the work has settled on the jobs that make the most difference to people at home: kitchens, wetrooms and disability adaptations.

Ian still does most of the work himself, with Freddie working alongside him. He takes on one job at a time, so he can oversee it from start to finish and hand it back when he said he would.

How Ian works

“My business is based basically on trust.”

Ian Curley

Most of our work comes by recommendation. People go ahead with us because we know what we’re talking about, and they recommend us because of how we behave in their home.

Some jobs run for months, and sometimes the owner moves out while the work is done. In Ian’s words:

“It’s my sole responsibility to look after it and make a good job.”

What that means for you

  • We look after the property. Before work starts, floors are covered with a protective film and furniture is wrapped or sheeted. Everything is cleaned and hoovered at the end of every day.
  • You have one person to speak to. You deal with Ian, from the first visit to the day he hands your home back.
  • We don’t cut corners. “I won’t cut corners on a build, whether it be structurally or mechanically, just to save a few quid.” The parts you will never see are done to the same standard as the parts you will.

Insurance

We are fully insured, with £5 million public liability cover.

What customers say

“They do great work and have a really nice manner, can turn their hand to any job. They have a can do attitude and we are very pleased with the work they did for us. We would certainly use their services again.”

Valérie Pierre-Gregory, Facebook review

“Originally the job was to paint the exterior of the house but Ian went above and beyond replacing soffits, stitching brickwork, repointing, and replacing pipework. He also cleaned all the yellowing window frames and door. Whilst there he fixed a broken toilet and replaced the broken front door lock! He has an eye for detail and gives lots of useful advice. We now have him booked in for further work. Ian turns up when arranged and gave daily updates. Would highly recommend.”
